Euros Update


 England showed fight, spirit and team morale as they came out of a true battle against Sweden Friday night in a 3-2 win. They now know only a point is needed against co-hosts Ukraine will see them into the quarter finals. How should England play it? 


 I would bring in Theo Walcott for James Milner, Walcott changed the game when he came on, where as Milner is just a work horse. Ukraine are the weakest team in the group and England should go out to attack. I would also bring Rooney back in for Carroll who did an excellent job, however Rooney is England’s best player and will be chomping at the bit to play. We know he can link up well with Young & Welbeck as they play at club level and apparently Rooney has been on fire in training. 

So the team I would start would be:

Hart, Jones, Terry, Lescott, Cole, Walcott, Parker, Gerrard, Young, Rooney & Welbeck.


 Group A pulled off a massive shock as Czech Rep & Greece progressed. Czech Rep lost their opening game 4-1 to Russia who were many people’s dark horses. Greece pulled off another underdog miracle with an inspirational performance from Karagounis against the Russians to finish second. Groups B tonight will become very complicated as Portugal, Holland & Denmark can all end on 3 points. I think Germany & Portugal will progress.

Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool (2019)

On to the 2019 Champions League Final now as Liverpool returned after their heartbreak of last year and they faced Tottenham. An all English final for the first time since 2008.  Both these sides came through some unforgettable semi-finals. Liverpool turned around a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona. While Tottenham came through a hell of a tie against Ajax.  Coming into the match Spurs were left worrying about the fitness of Harry Kane. Kane came into the game struggling but declared himself fit for the match after missing the semi-final. For Liverpool, no real major injury concerns. It was the start that Liverpool fans could only dream of. After only 20 seconds Moussa Sissoko was penalised for 'handball' from a cross by Sadio Mane which seemed to hit his chest. His arm was out in an unnatural position and after a VAR check the penalty was given. It was down to Mo Salah who was so cruelly taken off injured last year to give Liverpool the lead, which the Egyptian did. ...

Is it time for women officials in top flight football?

Can they run they line? Can the referee a top flight game? Are they any better or worse than male referees? Or should they stick with the female version of the game? Richard Keys & Andy Gray have once again brought this issue in to football. Here are a few for’s and against women officials. The Pro’s Women have become part of modern day football. That is a fact. At all levels they plan the game and in some cases they run the show, for example Karen Brady. They now attend more games than they use to. You see them in the crowds, mainly in the home end sitting down not signing but they’re still there. There’s no reason to say they don’t know the rules of the game, especially the offside rule as its now become very, very vague to what it actually is! As long as their adequate and have the ability to do the job properly and fairly surely that’s all that matters. Could this be the key that brings a bit more respect in to the game of football?
